Underworld: A Star Wars Novel by Jude Watson
Underworld is the third book in the Star Wars: The Last of the Jedi series, written by Jude Watson. It was published by Scholastic in 2005. The book follows the adventures of former Jedi apprentice Ferus Olin, who is on a mission to find and protect the surviving Jedi from the Empire.
The book begins with Ferus infiltrating the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, where he discovers a secret prison for Force-sensitive children. He rescues a young girl named Lune and escapes with the help of his friends Trever and Roan. Meanwhile, Darth Vader is hunting down the remaining Jedi, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. He also learns of Ferus's activities and sends his agents to capture him.
Ferus and his allies travel to Bellassa, where they meet with Senator Sano Sauro, who claims to be part of a resistance movement against the Empire. However, they soon realize that Sauro is actually working for Vader and has betrayed them. They manage to escape with the help of another Jedi survivor, Fy-Tor-Ana, who reveals herself to be Ferus's former Master, Siri Tachi. She tells Ferus that there are other Jedi hiding on different planets and that they need to unite them before it's too late.
The book ends with Ferus and his friends leaving Bellassa on a stolen Imperial ship, while Vader vows to find and destroy them.Ferus manages to find the room where the Jedi is being held, but he is shocked to see that it is not Fy-Tor-Ana, but a young girl named Lune Divinian. She is the daughter of Bog Divinian, a former Republic pilot who was captured by the Empire and forced to work on the Death Star project. Lune has a strong connection to the Force, and she tells Ferus that she has been having visions of a dark lord coming to kill her. Ferus realizes that she is referring to Darth Vader, and decides to rescue her from the Temple.
He contacts Trever and Roan Lanselaw, another former Jedi apprentice who has joined them on Coruscant. They devise a plan to escape from the Temple using a garbage chute and a speeder bike. However, they are spotted by stormtroopers and have to fight their way out. Along the way, Ferus encounters Malorum, who recognizes him as a Jedi and tries to capture him. Ferus manages to knock him out with a stun baton and escape with Lune.
They rendezvous with Trever and Roan at a nearby landing platform, where they have stolen an Imperial shuttle. They board the shuttle and fly away from Coruscant, hoping to find a safe place for Lune. However, they are unaware that Malorum has placed a tracking device on Ferus's belt, and that Vader is on his way to hunt them down.As they fly away from Coruscant, Ferus contacts Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is hiding on Tatooine. He tells him about Lune and asks for his advice. Obi-Wan warns him that Vader is relentless and that he should find a safe place to hide Lune. He also tells him that there is another Jedi survivor on Bellassa, a planet that was once loyal to the Republic but has now fallen under Imperial control. Obi-Wan says that the Jedi is Senator Sano Sauro, who was secretly trained by Yoda before the Clone Wars. He urges Ferus to contact Sauro and join forces with him.
Ferus decides to follow Obi-Wan's suggestion and heads to Bellassa with Lune, Trever and Roan. They land on the planet and meet with Sauro, who welcomes them and offers them his protection. He tells them that he is part of a resistance movement against the Empire, and that he has a plan to expose the Emperor's lies and rally the people against him. He says that he has a secret recording of Palpatine's speech to the Senate, in which he claimed that the Jedi tried to assassinate him and that he had to declare himself Emperor for the sake of peace. Sauro says that he can prove that the speech was edited and manipulated, and that he can broadcast it to the whole galaxy using a hidden transmitter.
Ferus is impressed by Sauro's courage and agrees to help him with his plan. However, he soon realizes that Sauro is not what he seems. He discovers that Sauro is actually working for Vader, and that he has betrayed them to the Empire. He also learns that Sauro was never a Jedi, but a Sith apprentice who was sent by Palpatine to spy on Yoda.
